Mount riders are warriors, scouts, and travellers who have developed the skills to fight, manoeuvre, and operate effectively from the back of a living creature. The bond between rider and mount is built through training, trust, and sustained proximity — an experienced mount rider learns to communicate intent through subtle shifts of weight and pressure, freeing their hands for combat while moving at speeds no infantry can match. The mounts themselves vary widely across fantasy settings, from warhorses and destriers to exotic creatures such as griffons, dire wolves, giant lizards, and undead steeds bound to their riders through necromantic pacts. In fantasy RPG settings, mount riders serve as cavalry in standing armies, swift messengers crossing vast distances, knights whose status is expressed through the quality of their mount, and explorers who cover ground that would take foot travellers weeks.
