Nobles are members of hereditary or appointed aristocratic classes who hold political authority, land rights, and social influence within feudal and imperial fantasy societies. Their power derives from birthright, wealth, and the networks of obligation and alliance that bind the ruling class together across generations. While some nobles are trained combatants who lead their own forces into battle, many exercise influence through diplomacy, patronage, economic control, and the manipulation of legal and political systems that exist to serve their interests. In fantasy RPG settings, nobles appear as quest patrons, political antagonists, potential allies, and figures whose decisions shape the lives of entire populations. They feature in campaigns involving dynastic succession, court intrigue, land disputes, the abuse of institutional power, and conflicts where the ambitions of a single aristocratic family ripple outward to destabilise kingdoms, trade networks, and the fragile peace between rival factions.
