Warlord Miniatures

Warlords are powerful military leaders who have seized authority through force, battlefield reputation, and the loyalty of armed followers rather than through hereditary right or institutional appointment. Their power is personal and contingent — maintained by continued military success, the equitable distribution of plunder among subordinates, and the suppression of rivals who would challenge their position. Where conventional rulers derive legitimacy from law and tradition, warlords derive it from demonstrated strength and the practical reality that their forces control the territory they occupy. In fantasy RPG settings, warlords emerge during periods of political collapse, in frontier regions beyond the reach of centralised authority, and among peoples whose cultures place martial achievement above administrative rank. They appear in campaigns involving fractured kingdoms, orcish or barbarian confederacies, post-war power vacuums, and storylines where the consolidation of military power by a single dominant figure threatens to reshape the political landscape of an entire region.
