That metalwork alone stopped us in our tracks — proper depth and age to the washes, not an easy thing to pull off on a construct like this.
John sent us his trio of mechanical tigers, and the paint job would've been enough on its own. But he went further. The lead tiger's carrying a fully scratch-built rider — saddle, blanket and saddlebags made from milliput, a brass wire flagpole, hand-painted paper flag, the lot. He hadn't even planned on adding a rider originally. Just decided to try it on one and ended up making it the leader of the whole pack.
By his own admission these are some of his favourite pieces he's ever painted. Hard to argue with him.
