If you're a painter who loves a big surface area to work with, the Bulette is going to make you very happy. The scales across the body are deep and well-defined, which means drybrushing picks them up brilliantly without much fuss. You can go full earthy desert tones, something darker and more underground, or lean into a blue-grey wash for that freshly-emerged-from-the-earth look. There's a lot of room to play here.
The sculpts genuinely reward a bit of time at the painting desk. The open-mouth pose on the larger figure shows off rows of teeth and a cavernous jaw — great for picking out with a bone or ivory highlight. The claws on the coiled pose are chunky and pronounced, so a simple dark wash followed by a dry highlight goes a long way. For the smaller orange sculpts in the second shot, the ridged spines and layered scales give you natural shadows to work with straight out of the print.
The Bulette has been kicking around mythology and fantasy gaming for decades — the idea of a massive armoured predator that bursts from the ground has obvious appeal. It's one of those creatures that almost writes its own encounter. Your players hear rumbling underfoot and suddenly the session gets a lot more interesting.
This is an Epic Miniature, and it shows. The detail level and sheer presence of the larger sculpt in particular puts it firmly in the boss-encounter bracket. You get multiple sculpts across the set — the big coiled beast, the upright lunging version, and the smaller juveniles — so you can run a full pack encounter or use them across different sessions without repeating yourself.
If your campaign takes the party anywhere near cracked desert flats or underground caverns, this fits naturally into both settings. It's one of the more versatile monster picks we stock, honestly. For players who love that sudden ambush moment, there's very little that beats a Bulette bursting through the floor.
If you're building out a wider bestiary, our monster miniatures collection has plenty to pair this with — from underdark horrors to forest predators. And if you want something with a similar pack-hunt energy but a very different aesthetic, the Great Werewolf Pack by Tytan Troll is a brilliant companion piece for wilderness encounters.
