If you've been hunting for a genuinely imposing demon-type miniature to anchor an encounter, the Hell Guardian from Epic Miniatures is worth a proper look. Three sculpts in the set, each with its own pose and character — and straight out of the printer they already have that kind of presence that makes players sit up a bit straighter.
From a painting standpoint there's a lot to work with here. The armour plating has real texture to it — rivets, overlapping scales, worn edges — and the skin beneath reads well under a zenithal prime. Wash it down, pick out the teeth and claws, and you're already most of the way there. The open-mouthed snarling faces reward a bit of extra time in the recesses; a dark flesh wash followed by a stipple of contrast on the gums genuinely brings them to life.
Scale-wise these sit comfortably as large humanoids — bigger than a standard 28mm fighter but not so oversized that they dwarf everything else on the table. The jumping sculpt especially benefits from a riser or a bit of cork underneath to sell the leap. Worth thinking about before you base them.
Creatures like this have a long history in folklore — guardian demons stationed at thresholds, bound to protect something powerful and very much not pleased to see intruders. That's a useful frame if you want to drop them into a campaign without much prep: they're guarding something, and that's reason enough. If you're building out a darker underworld-flavoured setting, our Underdark Miniatures collection has plenty of companions that would sit alongside these nicely.
The set comes as three individual sculpts — one mid-leap, two in grounded aggressive stances. All three carry that same visual language: heavy armour grafted onto a monstrous frame, clawed hands, and jaws that look like they mean it. The detail consistency across all three is genuinely impressive for a resin print, and the bases are clean with very little cleanup needed around the feet.
These are part of the broader Fiend Miniatures range here at Otts Workshop, which is worth a browse if you're stocking up on infernal-type enemies. If you'd prefer something on the complete opposite end of the tonal spectrum, Cast n Play's Eldarion, Guardian of the Forest is a brilliant contrast — same guardian archetype, very different flavour.
If you're after a set that pulls its weight both on the painting table and in an actual session, the Hell Guardian delivers. Head over to the product page and grab yours — they're a genuine centrepiece for any encounter that needs a bit of dread.
