Rat-folk warriors have always had a certain charm in fantasy tabletop. There's something genuinely compelling about the idea of a proud, organised rodent society — complete with armour, hierarchy, and soldiers who take their post very seriously. These aren't scurrying vermin. These are guards.

The Rat Folk Royal Spearmen from Duncan Shadows are a set of three distinct sculpts, and the detail across all of them is brilliant. Each figure is stocky, hunched in that characteristic rat-folk way, with clawed feet, expressive snarling faces, and layered armour that feels genuinely worn-in — studded pauldrons, belted coats, riveted bracers. They look like they've seen a few campaigns.

The weapons vary nicely across the three. One sculpt holds a tall spear upright with both hands, almost at parade rest. Another carries what looks like a serrated broadsword levelled forward in a low, aggressive grip. The third is mid-stance with a shorter bladed polearm. Good variety for a unit without looking mismatched.

For painting, the raised detail on the armour and fur texture gives you plenty to work with — a zenithal undercoat and some simple washes will get you a long way here. They'd sit comfortably at 28–32mm scale alongside most standard tabletop ranges, and the cast quality on our prints is clean enough that there's minimal cleanup needed before priming.
If you're building out a ratfolk warband, these Royal Spearmen make a brilliant core unit — the kind of disciplined rank-and-file that gives a faction some weight. You could run them as city guards, dungeon sentinels, or even elite household troops for a rat-folk noble.
If you want something with a slightly different energy alongside them, the Fantasy Rat Folk Miniature Set by Epic Miniature at this link is worth a look — a different sculpting style but good for mixing in some variation across a larger force.
We've got these printed and ready to ship from our workshop in the UK. If you're after something a bit different for your next campaign, these lads are genuinely worth adding to the collection.
