Dwarves and smithcraft go hand in hand across pretty much every fantasy tradition you can think of. The idea of a stocky, armoured craftsman who is equally at home hammering a blade into shape or charging into battle is one of those archetypes that never really gets old. It works because it makes sense — a people who live underground, surrounded by stone and metal, are going to be genuinely good at both.

This Steel Dwarf set from Epic Miniatures leans into that idea brilliantly. You get three sculpts in the pack, each one telling a slightly different part of the same story. The first is a heavy, imposing warrior standing with a massive warhammer resting at his side, a serpent-headed staff gripped in one hand — broad-shouldered, full plate armour, proper dwarf energy. The second puts him in motion, hammer raised over a shoulder with a shield on his back, mid-stride like he's already committed to the charge. The third is the one that really stands out — a dwarf bent over an anvil decorated with a ram's head, hammer raised and what looks like a magical flame in his free hand. It's a brilliant diorama-style sculpt and genuinely different from your typical warrior pose.

The detail work across all three is genuinely impressive. Chainmail texture, Celtic knotwork on the hammer heads, riveted armour plates, runic engravings on the bases — there's a lot to reward a careful paint job. If you enjoy picking out fine detail work, these will keep you busy in a good way. The armour has real weight to it visually, and the faces, while partially obscured by helmets, still have enough character to read well at arm's length across a gaming table.

These are resin prints, so you'll get a crisp finish straight out of the box. They'll sit comfortably alongside standard 28–32mm scale fantasy miniatures, and the bases already have decorative detail so you can keep them as-is or build on top if you prefer. Worth priming in grey or black to make the most of all that surface texture before you start laying down colour.

If you like the dwarf theme but want something with more of a tinkerer or inventor flavour, the Spark Gadgeteers from Cast n Play's Vulcan Dwarves range are well worth a look — a completely different take on the same people, but equally characterful.

The Steel Dwarf is part of our broader dwarf miniatures collection, which covers everything from frontline fighters to spellcasters to civilian characters. Plenty to browse if you're building out a full dwarven warband or just after one solid addition to your roster.
