Mercenary Miniatures

Mercenaries are professional soldiers who sell their combat skills to whoever can meet their price, operating outside the permanent military structures of states and noble houses. Their loyalties are contractual rather than feudal, and their effectiveness stems from practical battlefield experience accumulated across multiple employers, conflicts, and theatres of war. Individual mercenaries range from lightly armed skirmishers to heavily equipped veterans, while mercenary companies maintain internal hierarchies, reputations, and codes of conduct that determine the contracts they accept and the methods they employ. In fantasy RPG settings, mercenaries fill the gaps between standing armies and adventuring parties — hired to garrison border outposts, supplement undermanned forces during conflicts, escort valuable cargo through dangerous territory, and undertake operations that official military units cannot be seen to perform. They appear in campaigns involving factional warfare, siege operations, political destabilisation, and the moral complexities that arise when professional violence is treated as a commodity.
