If you've been looking for a centrepiece mount that's genuinely going to make your players do a double-take, this Nightmare Horse from Epic Miniatures is worth a proper look.
From a painting standpoint, this sculpt gives you a brilliant amount to work with. The mane and tail are rendered as wild, flame-like tendrils that flow in every direction, and the musculature across the body is deeply defined — great for drybrushing up from a dark base coat. The hooves sit inside thick bursts of that same flame texture, so there's a real opportunity to use contrast or speed paints to push the fiery effect without much effort. It's a large-size miniature, and the scale reference shots show just how well it holds up next to a standard d20, so you know it'll fill a two-inch base nicely.

There are two sculpt variants available. One is a wild, riderless version — front legs raised slightly, head low and aggressive, genuinely menacing in its pose. The second comes fully tacked up with a detailed saddle, spiked bridle, and heavy chain reins, which makes it perfect for a villain's mount or a cursed steed someone in the party might actually try to claim. Both sculpts are pre-supported, which is a real time-saver if you're printing on a resin machine.
These creatures have a long history in folklore and myth — horses associated with fire, night, and the underworld appear in traditions going back centuries across multiple cultures. It's a fun bit of context when you're dropping one into your game, and it gives you an easy hook to build an encounter around without needing much justification.

If dark fantasy mounts and fiendish creatures are your kind of thing, the broader fiend miniatures collection is worth browsing — there's a good range of similarly atmospheric sculpts in there.
We'd also suggest having a look at the Nightmare Creepers miniature by Flesh of Gods if you're building out a horror-themed encounter — different style entirely, but the two work well together thematically.
Both variants are available now in the shop. If you're running any kind of dark cavalry, infernal chase, or underworld encounter, this is genuinely one of the better options we carry for it.
